ways to help

Fundraising

The total SKPS fundraising goal for 2016 - 2017 and 2017 - 2018 is $365,000. We are always humble when requesting such generous financial support from the families of SKPS and truly appreciate your past support and anticipate your ongoing efforts to help make our school the best it can be for you and your children.

As is the case with all schools operating within the Diocese of Pittsburgh, tuition covers only a portion of a school's operating budget. The rest of the operating budget comes from a funding model determined by the Diocese: 60% - Tuition and Fees | 5% - Parish Subsidy | 10% - Fundraising | 5% - Other Sources.

To make our fundraising goal, we host a wide variety of events throughout the year, host a Lenten Fish Fry, sell donated used uniforms, sell gift cards, offer everyday opportunities to give back, and have an enrolled family fundraising requirement as outlined below.

SKPS Family Fundraising Requirement

Per Child Breakdown
Based on the estimated number of students for the 2016 - 2017 and the estimated number of students for the 2017 - 2018 school year, the following is a breakdown of the total SKPS fundraising needs and the minimum amount of Gift Card Program rebates and Kilian Credits expressed on a per child basis:

Category Total Fundraising Needs Minimum Gift Card Rebates Kilian Credit Requirement
All Preschool Children $225/child $70/child $100/Preschool only family
All K-8 Children $645/child $200/child $300/family with students in K - 8

How To Meet Your Family's Fundraising Goal
Your family's annual fundraising goal is tracked in two ways:

  1. SKPS GIFT CARD PROGRAM AND OVERAGE TUITION CREDITS
By purchasing gift cards at the school office during normal business hours or through the online Scrip program, SKPS receives rebates that can be directly counted towards a family's fundraising goal. It is our hope that by changing purchasing habits to use gift cards for purchases that were going to be made anyway a family can offset the actual out of pocket donation they need to make to meet their fundraising requirements. Each family must participate in the SKPS Gift Card Program. Families who do not generate rebates to the minimum per child levels, will need to pay the difference during or prior to the end of the school year. The percentage listed on the gift card order form for each vendor is used to calculate the credit towards your family's fundraising goal. For example, if you purchase $100 in gift cards for Gymboree at 13% you will receive a credit of $13 towards your fund raising goal. Every $100 spent at Giant Eagle will generate a $5 rebate, etc. Click here for full details regarding the program.

As an incentive for all families to use the gift card program to the fullest extent possible, a tuition credit is available to families equal to 50% of the amount of gift card rebates that exceeds their gift card requirements (to be used against the tuition in the following school year). More than one-third of our families earn a tuition credit through gift card purchases above their goal each year.

Please note gift card credits are not transferable or refundable under any circumstances.

  2. KILIAN CREDIT REQUIREMENT
Saint Kilian Parish School employs a Kilian Credit program in addition to the extensive gift card program for fundraising.  During the year, certain Saint Kilian fundraising events will be announced as Kilian Credit eligible.  SKPS families may then purchase admission to these eligible events with their Kilian Credit (not to exceed the value of what you were invoiced.)
  • These credits are not redeemable for anything other than admission to these events.
  • There is no prepayment discount for the Kilian Credit as there is with tuition.
  • Kilian Credit is valid for events through June 30 of the current school year.
  • Any unused amount is forfeited and cannot be rolled over.

You will be provided with tax documentation of any unused amount of Kilian Credit as a 501©(3) charitable donation.

During the school year, the value of your Kilian Credit is the total you paid ($100 preschool or $300 K-8th grade), less any admissions you purchased using your credit.  Should the admission price be higher than your Kilian Credit amount, you will be invoiced the difference or will have the opportunity to pay via credit card at the time of registration. SKPS will periodically communicate your remaining balance to you during the school year.
